72 hours and 600+ km

The study tour, something all DIS students will experience. If you're like me, you will have no idea what to expect, perhaps even unsure of where exactly you are going, and entirely unsure about what you're going to do. I can assure you, it will be fun, it will be awesome, and it will be tiring! (In a good way of course...)

We went to Aahrus, Denmark. We made a few pit stops along the way but for the sake of keeping this blog post short enough to read I will talk about the other places in a separate post.

Aahrus, dubbed the culture capital of Europe for 2017 is quite a city to see. Like many countries that have harbors that were previously used for mainly industrial purpose, they are redeveloping these areas in to public spaces. It turns out, people freakin' love water, who would have thought?

So being that my classmates and I are all in an Urban Design studio, this city was a perfect place to spend some time in. It is always wonderful to see cities investing in the public realm like Aahrus is, and their public library? Aside from the fact that it is HUGE looking on the outside and kind of breaks the Scandinavian stereotype of building at a human scale, it is so incredibly valuable to the public. There are multiple floors for kids to adults and plenty of spaces to tuck yourself away if you need to study or would simply like to read. Oh and they have an automated parking garage, hello future!

If you get a chance to go to Aahrus for your study tour, you are lucky. If you don't? I highly recommend going here, take the train over because it is a great way to travel and it will be well worth the trip. It would make a great weekend trip and there are plenty of hostels and air b&b's in the area! And if you are still not convinced, look at the image below, that my friends is a whale-copter... that kids play on. Go to the whale-copter, you have been summoned.

Go out, see Denmark, you'll be amazed at all that this relatively small country has to offer.

Peace and Love Turtle Doves.
